Travel Sichuan with local experts
Sichuan lies in southwest China. Its capital Chengdu takes life slowly: see the pandas at the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, then drink tea and snack along Kuanzhai Alley and Jinli. West of the city, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System and Mount Qingcheng are a joint UNESCO World Heritage site.
Further north in Ngawa prefecture, the lakes of Jiuzhaigou and the travertine pools of Huanglong are World Natural Heritage sites at high altitude, best given four to five days. The Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan is a popular addition.
