Why visit
Travel Shaanxi with local experts
Shaanxi lies in northwest China. Its capital Xi’an was the seat of more than ten dynasties and the start of the Silk Road. The Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor with its Terracotta Army is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Ming city wall is intact enough to cycle all the way round.
To the north is the loess plateau of northern Shaanxi: the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor in Huangling County, Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River in Yichuan County, and revolutionary sites such as Yangjialing and Zaoyuan in Yan’an. Xi’an is often combined with Beijing or Chengdu.
