- Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport has flights to cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. From Changsha you normally don’t need to fly.
Taking the train, step by step

After Zhangjiajie West station
Wulingyuan (forest park, Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Mountain) is about an hour away by taxi, tourist bus or a pre-booked car. Tianmen Mountain and the city centre are closer, about half an hour.
When you travel with us, your driver waits at the exit and takes you straight to your hotel or first sight.
Combining with Fenghuang
Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang are linked by the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua high-speed line. A common route: train from Changsha to Zhangjiajie, three days there, train on to Fenghuang, then back to Changsha or onward to another province — with no doubling back.
Tips
- Tickets are issued in your passport name, so bring your passport on the day
- Trains sell out around National Day and Chinese New Year; book early
- Check whether you leave from Changsha South or Changsha station — they are in different places
- With lots of large luggage, a private car is easier than the train
Questions
Can I do Zhangjiajie as a day trip from Changsha?
We don’t recommend it. The round trip takes most of a day, and Wulingyuan alone needs at least two days.
Train or private car?
Small group, light luggage: the train is fast and punctual. Families or groups with lots of luggage, or anyone wanting door-to-door: a private car is easier.
Is there a train station in Wulingyuan?
No. From Zhangjiajie West station it’s about another hour by road.
